Success is not a single dose pill but a blend of many components

This is the story of the unluckiest Indian cricketer

Meet Padmakar Shivalkar, known fondly as Paddy—a left-arm offspinner with unmatched skill.

Shivalkar made his debut in 1962. He played a key role in 18 of Mumbai’s 20 Ranji Trophy victories."

The 1972-73 Ranji Trophy final was Shivalkar’s crowning moment.

On a spin friendly Chepauk pitch , He delivered a spellbinding performance.

Paddy took 13 wickets to lead Mumbai to victory."

He never made it to the Test team which had spinners like Bedi and Chandra entrenched.

Paddy as they often say was right man at the wrong place.

When asked of his lack of luck he quoted an old hindi song.....

Jo mil gaya usi ko mukqaddar samajh liya, jo kho gaya mein usko bhulata chala gaya. Mai zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya, har fikr ko dhuven mein udata chala gaya. (Whatever I received, I considered it my fate; what I lost, I chose to ignore; I kept on with life and blew every worry away.).

Mumbai and Indian cricket will never forget this softspoken gentleman. Padmalkar Shivalkar
